There have only been two high school Sub-10 Two Miles in US history - both run indoors. Melody Fairchild was first in 1991 running 9:55.01 at the national championship and, just this year, Aisling Cuffe, joined her running 9:56.84 at the same meet.
But along with these marks there have been four other Sub-10 equivalents turned over the 3000 and 3200 distances.
Before Fairchild, Lynn Bjorklund set the 3000 record of 9:08.60 in 1975 during a US v. USSR dual meet in Kiev. In 1996 Kim Mortensen ran a 9:48.60 3200 in a CIF qualifying round that is recognized as the national record at the distance. And Jordan Hasay and Laurynne Chetelat staged the most thrilling dual at this distance in the 2008 California State Meet with Hasay winning in 9:52.13 to Chetelat's 9:52.51.
