Eligibility

Portland AC is open to all athletes, ages-8-18, in Oregon and SW Washington. No experience is required.

Training Groups

The team divides it's workout between the sprint and distance training groups based on the athltete's interest and by their strength in a particular group of events. The groups train at the same location most of the time with some exceptions for specialized workouts. New athletes often move between the groups before they find their preference.

Sprint Training Group This group includes the 100-400m races along with the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Workouts tend to emphasize short, fast repeats with long rest along with sessions of technique and strength drills. Practices typically run 2 hours.

Distance Training Group The distance runners are those athletes concentrating on the 800-3000m events. Workouts tend to vary from easy, aerobic running, tempo runs and repeat intervals. Practices typically run 1.5 hours.
